Where they are now

Ethan Maxwell :: 2.5 years old

This kid. Let me tell you. He sure knows how to do two. One minute he’s being all sweet and giving you kisses, telling you he loves you. And then the next minute his face changes. It becomes serious. He starts to growl and furrows his brow. He stomps his feet, swings his arms and slowly charges after you. Most of the time he’s being playful and just wants to wrestle with you. But sometimes, he’s hurt or offended and will actually swing punches or kicks. He’s very different from Micah at two. Ethan is very independent and determined, mostly thanks to having a big brother to look up to, I imagine. He is also fueled to do stuff, sometimes, by the fact that he’s just not allowed to do it (as pictured above). He very much dotes on his big brother still and daddy is still the favorite. Also following in his brother’s footsteps is his love of trucks. He will often hear a truck coming down the street and will run to the door to see it drive past.

Micah Alan :: 4.5 years

Pictured here with one of two of his latest obsessions, the other being legos. Micah loves breakfast. But I think he might love legos more. Not much keeps Micah from breakfast, but legos sure can! He’s really good at creating things from his imagination as opposed to using the directions. He’s not so much my baby anymore. He continues to have a very tender and sensitive disposition unlike his rough and tough brother. That difference in personality is probably the source of most of their disagreements. He’s mastering riding his bike and looking forward to preschool in the fall.

a fun little comparison

let’s keep things light and happy this morning.

last week, we had the boys well visits. yes, i took all three boys for their well visits: micah’s four year, ethan’s two year and william’s one month. i love our pediatrician’s office. i’ve taken to seeing the same pa every time, if possible. she even agreed to do all three in one visit, which the doctor/pa has to give approval for more than two checks at one visit.

because i took all three boys, by myself, they gave me two nurses to help me out. again, another reason why i love my pediatrician. micah got four shots, ethan one and william two. that was fun. said no mom ever. but we went for donuts after and that made everything better.

so here’s the fun comparison! another reason our pediatrician’s office is awesome is that i can go online and access all of the boys info. i don’t need to write it down anymore! i can go onto their website and give you the boys’ height and weight since birth.

so, at birth:
micah – 7’13” and 21″
ethan – 7’6″ and 21″
william – 7’14” and 20.75″

at one month:
micah – 10’1″ and 21.5″
ethan – 9’7″ and 22″
william – 9’6″ and 22.25″

at two years:
micah – 27″ and 33.5″
ethan – 25’6″ and 31.5″

at four years:
micah – 35’4″ and 39.75″

so, ethan is my tiny boy. he’s in the third percentile for height and eighteenth for weight.

micah’s fourth birthday

img_9160per wagner tradition, micah got to enjoy all his favorite foods on his birthday. i really wanted to make sure that his day was all about him and he got what he wanted. so jerry got him up early and took him to pick up breakfast, pancakes and bacon. on our way to our first birthday activity, we picked up his favorite m&m donut from peace, love and little donuts. he had chicken nuggets and applesauce with his friends for lunch. and then hot dogs, mac and cheese and broccoli for dinner. all his favorites.

after breakfast, we met up with friends at a local bounce house. it was micah’s first time ever going to something like this. he had so much fun. i really enjoyed watching him run around with his friend isaac. it was for ethan’s birthday too, but being the shorty that he was, this fire truck was the only part he was able to do by himself. unfortunately i went in a dress, so i couldn’t crawl around with him to help him do more obstacles. plus william was with us too. next time.

we went to a friend’s house for lunch. we actually were invited to celebrate a different friend’s birthday, but a lot of micah’s friends were there, so to him, it felt like the lunch was all about him.

img_9163img_9182img_9186img_9190when did he get to be so big? he got a duplo robot (a current obsession), an outer space puzzle and a foam sword. (he has another present coming, but it’s for him and ethan and we’re going to wait till ethan’s birthday to give it to them.) he loves all of them. he played with the robot for most of the afternoon/evening and already is able to do the 48 piece puzzle by himself. (i guess we should have gone for a hundred piece puzzle?!)

when i asked micah what he wanted as his special treat, he said a red cake. i asked him if he was sure, and he said, “nooo, a GREEN cake.” pauses, throws his head back and laughs, “no that would be silly.” then he said chocolate ice cream. easy enough for me bud! so we made sundaes. he was rather shy about us singing happy birthday to him, but he loved it. and so did ethan.

ethan got a foam sword too, and it’s amazing how fast he knew what to do with it. a little too well. my heart was so full last night as i thought back on the day. micah was so happy with everything we did. he loved his toys. jerry came home early from work and brought balloons. the boys played knights with their swords and daddy and rescued me from the evils of this world. i love having a house full of boys. i love my family. i love you, micah.
