some current faves

please don’t hate me for saying faves

1. this book, beautiful boy. man did this wreck me. this dad’s memoir of having a son addicted to crystal meth is so heartbreaking and eye opening. i was completely ignorant to what it’s like having a loved one addicted to drugs. i still really am. but i will say this, what we are doing as a country, as christians, as individuals, is not enough. these families and their addicts need more help. i’m not exactly sure what that is, but we’re praying about it.

2. the great british baking show. i finished stranger things season two a couple weeks ago (which i LOVED), and started watching tgbbs. i watched the most reason season while it aired last summer and loved it. it’s just so fun. i love watching their creations, learning, the dialog, the jokes. it’s just all so good.

3. everything the greatest showman. i went and saw it last week. i’ve been listening to the soundtrack, almost every single day. i love a good musical.

4. our new bikes. jerry, micah and i all got new to us bikes for christmas. ethan is getting micah’s hand me down. and we bought a trailer for ethan and william to ride in and an infant seat for william if we just want to carry him. i’m hopeful that this will be a family fun outdoor activity all summer long. although, i’m gonna have to get my legs into shape FAST, because after just a half hour of pulling around in our neighborhood, my thighs and calves KILLED.

5. living proof full dry volume. i have extremely thin hair that lays flat and lifeless. this has done wonders. although i wouldn’t mind finding a slightly cheaper version if you have any recommendations.

life update!

well, it’s been six months since my last post. oh well. life happened. summer vacations, school starting, william’s first birthday, boys birthday party, micah’s fifth birthday, ethan’s third birthday, halloween, thanksgiving, christmas, new years and here we are!

i’m hoping to post a little more regular updates, sharing photos of my family with our far away family and friends more frequently.

that’s not today though, ha! just wanted to pop in, put this out there, in hopes that it’ll make it happen.

have a great wintry day!

a different approach

in an attempt to be a better housewife/homemaker/mom i’ve come up with a new plan for my meal planning and grocery shopping. for july, i made a two week meal plan (fourteen meals), and will repeat it twice. we’re going away one weekend, so i’ll just use those meals from those days to fill in the extra days at the end of the month. some meals are even going to be repeated in the two week cycle.

i then assigned them to a day and will repeat that schedule twice in the month. i took in to account schedules (for the first three weeks in july, jerry has community group on mondays and i have group on thursdays; keeping larger meals for the weekend to accommodate hospitality… things like that) to decide what meals should go on which days.

then i filled in my planner. tuesday is july fourth and we’re having a bbq, so i switched tuesday’s and saturday’s plan for that week.

we’re also having a church picnic the first sunday, and we’re supposed to bring a side. so i switched sunday’s and thursday’s from the following week. and then like i said, we’re traveling, so i’ll just save those meals for the extra days at the end of the month.

so, what i’m hoping this will accomplish, besides taking way less time to plan, is i’m buying what i have already planned to use. in the past, i’ve done it the other way around, buy and then plan. with three kids, it’s not a fun time going to the grocery store by myself, every week, so i typically do the majority of my shopping at the beginning of the month at costco and then fill in (for things like veggies, fruit, milk, bread) the rest of the month at aldi, giant eagle and now the farmer’s market since it’s the summer. jerry’s going to go with us this time, to help manage the kids and my spending 😉

so, you veteran housewives/homemakers/mom, what are some tricks you’ve found to help be more efficient and better at keeping to a food budget? this is one of those proverbs 31 woman qualities that i know i definitely need to (and want to) grow in.
